INTRODUCTION

Taiwan is stepping up its push for Indian outbound travellers with a fresh travel proposition: fly-cruise holidays across Northeast Asia. By combining Taiwan with cruise itineraries that include Japan and South Korea, the destination is aiming to create a stronger value proposition for families, couples, and premium leisure segments.

The plan is backed by closer coordination between Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA), EVA Air, and StarDream Cruises. For Indian travel agents and tour planners, this is more than a destination campaign—it is a chance to build differentiated multi-country packages in a market that increasingly values convenience, experiences, and seamless connectivity.

WHY TAIWAN IS POSITIONING ITSELF AS A GATEWAY

Taiwan’s strategy is built around one simple idea: make the first stop interesting enough to sell the full journey. Rather than marketing Taiwan as only a stopover, the destination is being presented as a gateway to a broader Northeast Asia holiday.

With its mix of urban energy, night markets, coastal scenery, cultural landmarks, and signature cuisine, Taiwan can serve as both a standalone stay and a launch point for cruise itineraries across the region. For B2B sellers, that opens room for higher-value itineraries with stronger margins.

Taiwan adds a fresh layer to Northeast Asia itineraries by linking land and cruise experiences.
Indian travellers are showing more interest in experience-led and multi-country holidays.
The destination can be packaged for leisure, premium, honeymoon, and family segments.
Travel advisors can use Taiwan as a differentiator in a crowded Asia product portfolio.

WHAT THE EVA AIR DELHI-TAIPEI ROUTE MEANS FOR TRADE

A major enabler of this strategy is EVA Air’s planned non-stop Delhi-Taipei service starting December 1, 2026. Direct connectivity is often the missing piece in fly-cruise sales because it reduces complexity for both agents and travellers.

For the trade, this route can improve itinerary design by allowing smoother pre-cruise stays, easier coordination of departure timings, and better handling of baggage, transfers, and tour add-ons. It also strengthens Taiwan’s positioning as a practical gateway rather than a niche alternative.

In the B2B space, direct air access typically supports:

Better conversion for long-haul itineraries that require confidence in timing and connections.
More flexible packages that combine city stays, transit tours, and cruise departures.
Stronger appeal for premium travellers looking for a curated experience.
Opportunities to bundle hotel inventory, transfers, sightseeing, and shore excursions.

WHY FLY-CRUISE FITS INDIAN TRAVELLER DEMAND

Indian outbound travel is shifting toward holidays that offer more than one experience in a single trip. Travellers want convenience, but they also want variety, value, and a sense of discovery. Fly-cruise holidays are a strong fit for that mindset.

Cruise tourism also helps agents sell a broader holiday story. Instead of focusing only on flights and hotels, advisors can create an itinerary that includes destination immersion, onboard leisure, and regional exploration in one booking flow.

According to industry insights referenced by TTA, cruise spending supports a wider tourism ecosystem, including local transport, restaurants, retailers, artisans, and destination suppliers. CLIA data also indicates that more than 60% of cruise passengers return to destinations they first discover by cruise, reinforcing the long-term value of cruise-led travel.

HOW TRAVEL AGENTS CAN PACKAGE THIS PRODUCT

For Indian tour operators and consolidators, the best opportunity lies in product design. Taiwan can be built into a premium regional circuit, especially when paired with Japan and South Korea cruise sectors.

A practical package could include:

2–3 nights in Taipei for sightseeing, food, shopping, and cultural experiences.
A transit or half-day stopover tour for shorter itineraries.
A cruise sailing across Northeast Asia with Japan and South Korea calls.
Optional add-ons such as private transfers, Indian meal arrangements, and sightseeing extensions.

This model works well for both FIT and small-group segments. It also gives advisors room to upsell hotel categories, shore excursions, and pre/post-cruise extensions based on traveller profile.

THE ROLE OF TAIWAN TOURISM ADMINISTRATION IN MARKET DEVELOPMENT

The Taiwan Tourism Administration is not just promoting the destination; it is actively engaging the Indian travel trade to build bookable products. That matters because destination campaigns only convert when the trade has workable itineraries, pricing support, and clear selling points.

Its recent promotional event in New Delhi brought together Indian travel industry stakeholders and media, along with supplier partners including Taiwanese DMCs, EVA Air, and StarDream Cruises. That type of trade engagement is essential for turning awareness into actual bookings.

For agents, this signals that Taiwan is open to B2B collaboration and may be ready for tailored promotions, familiarization support, and destination education initiatives that help build demand.

TTA’S TRANSIT TOUR OFFERING ADDS MORE SELLING VALUE

One of Taiwan’s most practical advantages for international travellers is its complimentary half-day transit tour service for eligible passengers. Depending on flight timing and entry conditions, visitors can choose guided bus experiences or self-guided exploration.

This is especially useful for agents selling stopover-based itineraries, where travellers want to see more without committing to a full land package. It can be positioned as an easy-value add that improves itinerary appeal and encourages first-time visits.

For travel professionals, transit products can be used to:

Increase perceived value without heavily increasing trip cost.
Convert short layovers into memorable destination exposure.
Encourage first-time travellers to experience Taiwan before a future return trip.
Create smoother bridge itineraries between flights and cruise departures.

CONCLUSION

Taiwan’s fly-cruise push represents a timely opportunity for India’s travel trade. With direct Delhi-Taipei connectivity on the horizon, a stronger cruise proposition, and active destination support, agents can build more competitive and distinctive Northeast Asia packages.

For B2B professionals, this is the right moment to explore multi-country itineraries that combine Taiwan with Japan and South Korea. The winning formula will be simple: connect the right air access, the right cruise product, and the right stopover experience to meet the evolving expectations of Indian travellers.
