Kashmir Chrysanthemum Garden 2026: Srinagar’s New Autumn Crowd-Puller

Srinagar has added a fresh reason to visit in the cooler months: the Chrysanthemum Garden at Bagh-e-Gul-Dawood. With millions of blooms spread across a scenic landscape, it is quickly becoming one of Kashmir’s standout autumn attractions.

Opened for the 2026 season by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on October 23, the garden is designed to spotlight autumn as a full-fledged tourism season, not just a bridge between summer and winter. For travelers who know Kashmir only for its spring tulips, this floral showcase offers a different kind of beauty.

What Is Bagh-e-Gul-Dawood?

Bagh-e-Gul-Dawood is Srinagar’s dedicated chrysanthemum theme garden, developed by the Department of Floriculture, Parks and Gardens. Located at the Botanical Garden area of Chashma Shahi, it has been shaped into a seasonal attraction that blends landscaping, color, and mountain views.

The 2026 edition is especially ambitious. Spread across roughly 100 kanals, it features around 3.5 lakh chrysanthemum plants, more than 70 varieties, and an estimated 12 million blossoms in full display.

That scale gives the garden a striking visual impact. Visitors can expect bright shades of yellow, pink, red, purple, and white set against Srinagar’s crisp autumn skies and surrounding hills.

Why Kashmir Is Investing in Autumn Tourism

For years, Kashmir’s tourism calendar has been heavily linked to spring tulips and the summer circuit of Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg. Autumn, however, has long been one of the valley’s most picturesque but under-promoted seasons.

The Chrysanthemum Garden is part of a broader effort to change that. Chrysanthemums bloom longer than tulips and can tolerate cooler weather better, making them ideal for extending the tourism window into late autumn and even early winter.

This matters for the local economy too. A stronger autumn season can mean more business for hotels, taxi operators, guides, restaurants, and travel planners who depend on steady visitor flow.

Encourages repeat visits from travelers who already visited the Tulip Festival
Creates fresh opportunities for local tourism and floriculture businesses

What Visitors Can Expect at the Garden

Beyond the flowers themselves, the garden has been upgraded with several visitor-friendly features. These include water features, expanded flower beds, landscaped walking areas, and selfie points designed for photography enthusiasts.

The use of locally propagated planting material is also a notable step. It supports regional horticulture while reducing dependence on imported stock, which strengthens the garden’s long-term sustainability.

For travelers, that means Bagh-e-Gul-Dawood is not just a flower field. It is being developed as a polished destination experience with visual appeal, accessibility, and seasonal relevance.

Best Time to Visit the Chrysanthemum Garden

The prime visiting period is October and November, when the blooms are at their brightest. Depending on weather and maintenance, the 2026 flowering season is expected to continue into early December.

That makes the garden especially appealing for travelers planning a late-autumn trip to Srinagar. Since chrysanthemums can withstand light snowfall, the attraction may stay open longer than many other seasonal flower displays.

As always, visitors should confirm current bloom conditions, entry rules, and opening hours with local authorities before planning the trip.

Other Places to Explore in Srinagar

A visit to Bagh-e-Gul-Dawood can easily be paired with some of Srinagar’s most iconic attractions. The city offers a rich mix of heritage, water, and garden experiences that fit well into a short trip.

Chashme Shahi is a classic Mughal garden with terraced lawns and a natural spring. Dal Lake remains a must-visit for shikara rides, floating markets, and mountain views. Nishat Bagh is another elegant Mughal garden overlooking the lake.

Together, these places make Srinagar one of India’s most rewarding seasonal destinations, especially for travelers who enjoy scenic and slower-paced itineraries.

What This Means for Kashmir Tourism

The Chrysanthemum Garden is more than a pretty seasonal display. It represents a strategic move to diversify Kashmir’s tourism economy and spread visitor demand across more months of the year.

If promoted well, Bagh-e-Gul-Dawood could become as recognizable in autumn as the Tulip Garden is in spring. That would be a major win for destination branding, local livelihoods, and year-round travel planning.

CONCLUSION

Kashmir’s Chrysanthemum Garden is shaping up to be one of Srinagar’s most exciting new attractions. With millions of blossoms, improved visitor facilities, and a strong seasonal identity, it gives travelers a new reason to experience the valley in autumn.

For anyone planning a Kashmir trip between October and December, Bagh-e-Gul-Dawood deserves a place on the itinerary alongside Srinagar’s classic landmarks.
