Myanmar Visa on Arrival for Indian Tourists Extended to 2027

Indian travelers have another year to enjoy easier access to Myanmar. The country has extended its Visa on Arrival (VOA) facility for Indian passport holders until August 29, 2027, giving visitors more flexibility when planning short leisure trips.

The same extension also applies to Chinese travelers, while Japan, South Korea, and Macao continue to enjoy their own VOA access through a separate timeline. For Indian tourists, the biggest advantage is simple: no advance visa processing is needed, as long as entry is by air and all conditions are met.

What the Myanmar Visa on Arrival Extension Means

This update is especially helpful for last-minute planners and travelers combining Myanmar with other Southeast Asian destinations. Instead of applying through a consulate before departure, eligible visitors can complete the process on arrival at designated airports.

That said, this is still a temporary arrangement. Myanmar has not made the scheme permanent, so travelers should verify the latest rules before booking flights.

VOA is available only for tourism purposes.
Entry under this scheme is allowed by air only.
The facility is valid for Indian and Chinese nationals until August 29, 2027.

Eligibility for Indian Travelers

Indian nationals remain eligible for Myanmar’s Tourist Visa on Arrival, provided they arrive at an approved airport and carry the required documents. The rules are straightforward, but even small mistakes can cause delays at immigration.

Travelers should ensure their passport has sufficient validity and that their trip fits the tourism-only purpose allowed under this visa category.

Visa Fee, Stay Duration, and Document Requirements

The current VOA terms for Indian tourists include a fee of US$50 per person and a maximum stay of 30 days. The visa cannot be extended once issued under this facility.

Applicants must also carry two color photographs sized 1.2 × 1.5 inches and a passport with at least six months of validity remaining. These requirements are standard for tourist arrivals and should be prepared in advance to avoid issues at the airport.

Important Air-Only Rule for Myanmar Entry

One of the most important points for Indian travelers is that this VOA applies only to air arrivals. If you are planning a land crossing or a regional overland itinerary, you should not assume the same rule applies.

This matters for travelers building multi-country routes through Thailand, India’s northeastern borders, or other neighboring destinations. Always check the current entry method allowed for your route before finalizing travel plans.

Why This Extension Matters for Indian Tourists

Myanmar’s decision offers a practical boost for tourism, especially for travelers who want more spontaneous trip planning. It also reduces paperwork and waiting time for short visits.

For Indian tourists, the extension is a positive sign, but it is still best viewed as a convenience measure rather than a long-term policy shift. Keeping an eye on official travel updates remains essential.

Travel Tips Before You Fly

Before departure, confirm your flight arrival airport is eligible for VOA processing and keep printed copies of all required documents. Immigration rules can change quickly, particularly in trial visa programs.

If your itinerary is flexible, it is wise to monitor official airline notices and Myanmar tourism updates in the days leading up to travel.

CONCLUSION

Myanmar’s extended Visa on Arrival facility gives Indian tourists easier access through August 2027, with a simple airport-based process for short leisure trips. Just remember the key conditions: air entry only, US$50 fee, 30-day stay limit, and no extension once you arrive.
