Japan has officially rolled out a streamlined eVisa system as of May 23, 2025, allowing eligible travellers to apply for a short-term visa entirely online.

What is the eVisa?

A single-entry eVisa for stays up to 90 days, exclusively for tourism.
Instead of a sticker, travellers receive a “Visa Issuance Notice”, which must be presented digitally printed or screenshot version.

Who Is Eligible?

Citizens from these 10 countries can apply directly online:
Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, the UK, and the USA.

Country-Specific Rules

Only travellers arriving by air or via scheduled ferry from Busan or Shanghai can use the eVisa
