Israel Ministry of Tourism Signs MoU with TAAI to Strengthen India Ties

The Israel Ministry of Tourism (IMOT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), marking a fresh step in deepening tourism cooperation between the two countries. The agreement was announced during TAAI’s 69th Convention & Exhibition in Kolkata, held from October 25 to 27, 2026.

The partnership is designed to build stronger links with India’s travel trade, expand destination awareness, and create new avenues for collaborative tourism promotion.

What the MoU Means for India-Israel Tourism

The MoU was signed by Galit Hoffman, Consul for Tourism Affairs at the Israel Ministry of Tourism in India, and Sunil Kumar, President of TAAI. It establishes a long-term framework for cooperation focused on increasing knowledge of Israel as a tourism destination among Indian travel professionals.

The move comes at a time when Israel is working to broaden its image in India beyond pilgrimage travel and position itself as a diverse destination for leisure, culture, family holidays, luxury experiences, adventure, culinary travel and MICE.

Why Israel Is Doubling Down on the Indian Market

India remains one of the most promising outbound travel markets in Asia, with rising demand for international leisure, niche experiences and premium travel products. For destinations like Israel, the opportunity lies not only in attracting travellers, but also in educating the trade that sells the destination.

That is where partnerships like this become important. TAAI’s nationwide network gives IMOT direct access to a broad base of travel professionals who can help shape traveller perception and drive bookings.

Galit Hoffman said the partnership is a valuable opportunity to deepen engagement with the Indian travel trade and explore new ways to promote Israel more effectively.

She noted that the Indian market shows strong potential and that closer cooperation with local partners can help turn growing interest into real tourism opportunities.

TAAI Sees Value in Deeper Collaboration

Sunil Kumar, President of TAAI, welcomed the agreement and highlighted the benefits for TAAI members. According to him, the partnership will help travel agents gain a stronger understanding of Israel’s tourism products and better serve the changing preferences of Indian travellers.

He also emphasised that joint initiatives with IMOT will create more meaningful engagement between the Israeli tourism body and the Indian travel trade.

Recent Trade Activity Signals a Bigger Push

This MoU is part of a broader strategy by IMOT to strengthen its outreach in India. Earlier in October, the tourism board conducted a three-city roadshow in New Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai — its first such initiative in India in nearly seven years.

During the Mumbai leg of the roadshow, IMOT also signed an MoU with the Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI), showing that the tourism board is building momentum across multiple trade channels.

The timing is significant. With Air India scheduled to resume direct flights between Delhi and Tel Aviv from December 1, 2026, with five weekly services, destination accessibility is set to improve as well.

How Better Connectivity Could Support Tourism Growth

Direct air connectivity is often a major driver of outbound travel demand. When paired with trade training and joint promotion, it can help convert interest into actual arrivals.

For Israel, the combination of stronger travel trade partnerships and renewed direct flights could improve visibility in the Indian market and support wider tourism goals.

Better access for Indian travellers through direct flights
More product knowledge for agents and tour operators
Stronger destination positioning beyond religious tourism
Greater scope for premium and niche travel segments

Conclusion

The new MoU between IMOT and TAAI is more than a ceremonial agreement. It represents a strategic effort to build long-term tourism bridges between Israel and India.

With roadshows, training programmes, trade engagement and direct air connectivity all aligning, Israel appears ready to expand its presence in one of the world’s most important outbound travel markets.
