In a landmark move to boost urban tourism, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has greenlit hot-air balloon rides at four key locations in the capital. Aimed at reshaping recreational experiences and increasing tourism revenue, this initiative is part of a broader push to transform Delhi’s leisure landscape with innovative and immersive offerings.

Locations Selected for Balloon Launch

The four selected launch sites include:

Bansera (Sarai Kale Khan – Yamuna West Bank)
Asita (Eastern Yamuna Floodplain between ITO and Old Railway Bridge)
Yamuna Sports Complex (Surajmal Vihar)
Commonwealth Games Village Sports Complex (near Akshardham)

All sites have been evaluated for safety, scenic value, and accessibility, making them ideal for adventure tourism.

Revenue Model & Operator Opportunity

The DDA has floated a tender inviting private firms to operate balloon services on a revenue-sharing basis. Successful bidders will receive designated areas of 60m x 60m, operational for up to 4 hours daily, with provisions for extended flying time based on demand and permissions.

Each license will initially span three years, with extension options up to nine years, offering long-term investment potential for operators in the leisure aviation space.

Urban Renewal Meets Adventure

Bansera and Asita are not just launch sites — they are part of Delhi's Yamuna floodplain rejuvenation projects. Bansera stands as Delhi’s first bamboo-themed eco-park, while Asita showcases restored wetlands and green trails. Their inclusion in the balloon ride initiative will bring eco-tourism and sustainable recreation into focus.

Sport-Driven Locations Add Value

The Commonwealth Games Village and Yamuna Sports Complex are legacy infrastructures from the 2010 Commonwealth Games. While ticket prices will be set by the service providers, the DDA has emphasised that pricing must be reasonable to ensure broad access.
