Amarnath Yatra Declared ‘No-Flying Zone’ from July 1 to August 10

Heightened Security Ahead of Amarnath Yatra 2025

As preparations intensify for the annual Shri Amarnathji Yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has officially declared all yatra routes as ‘No Flying Zones’ from July 1 to August 10, 2025. This sweeping directive includes both the Pahalgam and Baltal axes, which are the two major trekking paths for devotees.

The decision comes in response to security concerns following the tragic April 22 terror attack near Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, underlining the need for enhanced protection during the pilgrimage season.

What the No-Flying Order Covers

The order, issued on the directions of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, prohibits the operation of all aerial platforms, including:

  • Drones

  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)

  • Balloons

  • Microlights and other aviation devices

These restrictions are aimed at minimising unauthorised surveillance or potential threats from airspace intrusion.

Limited Exceptions with SOPs

The ban excludes medical evacuation, disaster response, and security force surveillance, which will be allowed under a special Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to be released separately.

Travel planners, helicopter service providers, and logistics teams working around the yatra will need to coordinate closely with local authorities to stay compliant.

Impact on Travel Agents and Tour Operators

This airspace restriction will particularly impact private operators offering drone videography, luxury air tours, and aerial logistics in the region. B2B travel agents must:

  • Reassess aerial package inclusions for Amarnath itineraries

  • Inform clients and tour groups about the flying restrictions

  • Adapt logistics to ground-based operations where needed

  • Coordinate with state security officials for compliance

Government’s Intent: Smooth & Secure Yatra

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has also endorsed the recommendation, urging state officials to maintain maximum vigilance. The “No Flying Zone” aims to prevent any airspace misuse and ensure a safe, uninterrupted pilgrimage experience for thousands of devotees expected between July and August.

Key Dates to Remember

  • No-Fly Duration: July 1 – August 10, 2025

  • Yatra Start Date: July 3, 2025

  • Routes Affected: Entire stretch of Pahalgam & Baltal axes

Conclusion: Safety First for Spiritual Tourism

The 2025 Amarnath Yatra remains a focal point for both religious tourism and national security. With tight aerial surveillance and ground forces on alert, stakeholders must align their services to meet government protocols without compromising the travel experience.
