Thailand Reinstates Financial Proof Requirement for Tourist Visas in 2025

Financial Requirements for Thailand Tourist Visas

Effective May 2025, Thailand has officially reinstated the financial proof requirement for all tourist visa applicants. Originally suspended in November 2023 to encourage post-pandemic travel, the requirement is now back in place and applies to all nationalities.

As per Thailand’s official e-Visa portal, applicants must provide evidence of funds not least 20,000 THB (approx. USD 550 or EUR 510), valid for solo travellers. Accepted documents include:

  • Bank statements from the past 3 months

  • A sponsorship letter confirming financial support

Embassies and consulates worldwide—such as in the US, France, and Norway—are now strictly enforcing this requirement.

Complete Thailand Tourist Visa Checklist for 2025

If your client is applying for a single-entry tourist visa (valid for up to 60 days), ensure they submit the following:

Requirement Details
Passport Valid for at least 6 months
Photo Recent passport-size photo
Proof of Residence Utility bill, lease, or official address proof
Round-trip Ticket Confirmed flight in and out of Thailand
Accommodation Details Hotel booking or invitation from host
Financial Proof Min. 20,000 THB or sponsor letter

Visa-Free Entry Still Exists — But Not Without Uncertainty

As of now, citizens of 93 countries can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days. However, this visa exemption policy is under review, and Thai authorities may reduce the stay limit to 30 days.

Although no formal changes have been announced, industry insiders expect updates in the coming months due to concerns over misuse of visa-free entries.

What About Visa on Arrival (VoA) Travellers?

Even though the financial proof rule specifically targets tourist visa applicants, travellers using Visa on Arrival (VoA) should be aware: Thai immigration officers still reserve the right to request financial documents at the point of entry.

To avoid any inconvenience, VoA travellers should be ready to show:

  • Minimum 10,000 THB (per person)

  • 20,000 THB (for families)

Other standard VoA requirements include:

  • A valid passport (with at least 30 days’ validity)

  • Passport-sized photo

  • Completed the VoA application form

  • Proof of accommodation

  • Confirmed return or onward flight

Thailand Replaces TM6 with New Digital Arrival Card

As part of its digital transformation, Thailand has launched the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), replacing the paper-based TM6 form from May 1, 2025.

TDAC is now mandatory for all international arrivals, including visa-free and VoA travellers.

What You Need to Fill in TDAC:

  • Personal details

  • Passport information

  • Travel dates

  • Flight number and airline

  • Thai address during your stay

💡Pro tip for agents: Advise clients to complete the TDAC online before departure to avoid delays at immigration counters.

Summary: What Travel Professionals Should Know

With the reinstated financial documentation rule and the TDAC rollout, Thailand is enhancing both border security and administrative efficiency.

Key takeaways for B2B travel planners:

• Tourist visa applicants must show 20,000 THB in available funds
• The TDAC form is compulsory regardless of visa status
Visa-free stay limits might change — stay updated
• Visa on Arrival travellers may still be asked for proof of funds at entry
• Encourage clients to prepare all documentation in advance

Final Thoughts

These changes underscore Thailand’s efforts to balance tourism growth with responsible entry oversight. For travel agents and consolidators, it’s essential to update clients with the latest visa rules and digital form requirements to ensure smooth arrivals and avoid last-minute visa issues.
