Air India Enhances Its Global Connectivity Strategy
In a major development at the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting in New Delhi, Air India announced expanded codeshare agreements with Air Mauritius and Icelandair, marking a strategic step in its international expansion.
These partnerships will unlock smoother connections, shared ticketing platforms, and unified baggage handling, making global travel more accessible and flexible for Indian travellers.
Air Mauritius Codeshare: India to Africa Made Easier
The newly enhanced partnership between Air India and Air Mauritius opens up 17 new codeshare routes spanning India, Mauritius, Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar.
Key Highlights:
Air India’s ‘AI’ code will now appear on Air Mauritius flights to Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Antananarivo, via Mauritius.
In return, Air Mauritius will apply its ‘MK’ code on major Air India domestic routes, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
All India–Mauritius flights will now be jointly codeshared, offering increased frequency and flexibility for business and leisure travellers.
With a single ticket and baggage checked through to the final destination, this partnership is a game-changer for travellers heading to Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.
“This partnership boosts trade and tourism between India and Africa,” said Campbell Wilson, CEO & MD of Air India.
Icelandair Partnership: A New Gateway to the Nordics
Air India’s codeshare with Icelandair marks its debut connectivity with Iceland and the Nordic region, opening new avenues for travellers heading to Europe and beyond.
Partnership Highlights:
Air India will codeshare on Icelandair-operated flights from Reykjavik to European cities like London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Zurich.
Icelandair will place its ‘FI’ code on Air India flights between:
Delhi and Europe (via London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen)
Mumbai and London/Frankfurt
This agreement enables passengers to fly from India to Reykjavik with one booking, benefiting from aligned schedules, streamlined check-ins, and baggage transfers.
“We’re building a seamless bridge from India to Iceland’s unique destinations,” said Wilson.
Icelandair’s CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason, added: “This collaboration expands our reach and brings Iceland closer to the Indian travel market.”
Booking Information and Launch Timeline
Air India–Air Mauritius codeshare routes will be available from July 1, 2025, across both airlines' websites, mobile apps, and B2B travel agent portals.
The Air India–Icelandair partnership is currently pending final regulatory approvals. Rollout will begin progressively in the coming months on both airline systems.
